A wonderfully uncommon Viking Glass dog for the serious art glass or canine collector. This vintage Viking Glass Cocker Spaniel features an adorable reclining pose with a rounded puppy face, long drooping spaniel ears and beautifully molded fur details. The piece is made in crystal glass with a soft satin-frosted finish contrasted by clearer glass details, giving the figure a luminous appearance as light passes through it. Viking Glass produced a number of animal figurines and paperweights during its long history, including several dog designs. While Scottie, terrier, Beagle and hound-type Viking dogs are encountered with some regularity, this reclining Cocker Spaniel form is considerably less commonly seen on the secondary market, making it an especially interesting addition to a Viking Glass animal collection. Viking Glass was established in New Martinsville, West Virginia, in 1944 following the reorganization of New Martinsville Glass. The company inherited and continued using a number of earlier molds and became especially well known for its colorful handmade art glass and decorative animal forms. Because Viking reused and reintroduced molds throughout its history, accurately dating individual animal figurines can be challenging. This charming Spaniel works beautifully as a collectible art-glass figurine, desk paperweight, shelf accent or gift for a Cocker Spaniel lover.
